Broan Customer Technical Support very efficient and helpful

We have multiple units only a couple of years old. When a heater stopped heating, one 15 minute phone call later, (888) 336-6151, without any cost to us, it's replacement was ordered and should ship in 3-5 business days. The support representative was very courteous and helpful. It is comforting to know that Broan-Nutone supports its products and doesn't ask customers to jump through too many hoops to get replacement parts when systemic problems arise.

worked great w/ no problems...

Installed new in 2008 and aside from having to replace the night light bulb every so often it has worked great (I fixed that by installing an LED version of the night light bulb). I recently had to order a new heater element for the first time. the only thing I would change is to have a clear lamp cover as the opaque one doesn't shed as much light.

Works great BUT

Like every other review the weak link in the chain here is the heating element. Every 1-2 years I am replacing it and the cost keeps going up. Other than that it's great. LookIng for a replacement again for the 8th or 9th time brought me here. You should sell them in packs of 10.

Works well but heating element fails about every 2 years.

The fans are quite, move a fair amount air and the lighting is real good. I am very satisfied with the vent and lighting. I do not use the heater but the wife does and this is where the problem is. I cannot seem to get more than 2 years out of a heating element. Unit installed in Nov 2007. Heating element failed & replaced under warranty Nov 2009. Heating element replaced Jan 2012. Heating element replace Oct 2013. Cost is just a bit under $50 and is easy to replace. I cannot recommend this to someone looking for a bathroom light, vent and heater because of the heating element failure rate. Before you buy any unit check out the cost of replacement parts.

Heating Element Fails Frequently

Reviewed in the USA on 2022-02-06T16:00:00

This is a follow up to a review I wrote 7-8 years ago. The unit was installed in 2007 and is now 15 years old. It replaced a NuTone Bathroom Light/Vent/Heater that lasted 30 years. The new unit has been a bit of a disappointment and a frequent headache prompting me to keep a log of the failures. The heating element has been replaced 6 times. NuTone indicated that the element may be coming on before the fan starts which is the cause of the high failure rate and sent a replacement heater fan and element assembly. The wiring harness in the housing shorted out and failed in 2019 and was replaced. I checked the wiring when I replaced the wiring harness. Both fan & heating element are energized simultaneously. The only explanation is the fuse/transistor in the heating element is of poor quality and not reliable. This conclusion was pointed out to Broan/NuTone in the past. Changing the heating element is not a hard job but is not fun. When the sucker works, it works great. However, new purchasers BEWARE!

It's a good and effective unit, but for weak heating element.

We've had a QTXN110HL for over 15 years and are fairly happy with it but for the repeated failure of the heating element fuse. About every 4 years the thermo fuse fails despite only moderate dust accumulation. We always find the heating element itself is fine and shows no damage or singed areas. It also shows continuity at the connections at the immediate ends of the element. However the $2 fuse always fails continuity and would be difficult the replace in the tight space of the element (element rivets to drill out and reset without breaking the mica supports being the problem), so we've had to get a new complete assembly each time. Also note that the heater element can't be easily dusted if the build-up were a problem. It needs to be removed to do any service. Cleaning the rest of the unit is not difficult with the cover removed (see following). Disassembly is straight forward with only a straight blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver and common pliers needed. Use the straight screwdriver to pop off the light cover at one end. This reveals the 2 cover holding screws. Remove them while supporting the main cover and slowly drop the cover down, as it is now held on only by the electrical lighting wires. Disconnect the wires at the connectors in the ceiling frame box. Put aside the cover for cleaning. There are 2 fans. Locate the one that blows air down (turn on the the wall switch to help you tell them apart if needed). On one side there are 2 nuts holding on the heater fan. Remove these while supporting the fan. Fan will pivot down and detach. On the fan you will see the heating element is held in by Phillips screws on each side. Remove them and the cover plates and the element slides out for test/replacement. Unit dust-out and oiling the fan bearings is a good idea at this time. After any servicing and cleaning, reverse disassembly order to reassemble. The rest of the unit is great. The fans still aren't making noise and the flow due to the 6" duct is much superior to the common 4" type. If a better (10+ year life) heater element was used our rating would be 5 stars.

originally purchased this unit about 15 yrs ago..the heater worked well for 9 or 10 years and then has given up no end of trouble..We replaced the heating unit three times, the most recent replacement was in april of this year, and again it is no longer working..when the heater works it does a great job, but it is hard to understand why the unit burns out so frequently..

Bad Heater In 4 Months

Reviewed in the USA on 2019-05-05T17:00:00

Heating element went bad in just FOUR MONTHS. Numerous others are complaining in reviews online about the same problem - multiple failures in first year or two. Quiet. Worked great for 4 months. Broan/Nutone should completely redesign this CHEAP heating element. It is hurting their otherwise great reputation. I will go to another brand next time.

Good fan but for the heater

Have used these in our home remodels and every time the heater has failed within 2-3 years max. I am not sure what is wrong - poor design or inferior quality. We no longer recommend these for our Clients because of the hassle created when the heater fails, and when it is out of warranty, the parts and the labor fall on our shoulders. Overall, we are pleased with everything else, but the reoccurring heater issue is a deal breaker.
